Sustainably Managing Private Native Forests –
A guide for Victorian landowners
By Mark Poynter

The guide is based on an extensive revision and extension of the 2002 publication A Landowners Guide to Managing Private Native Forests in Gippsland produced by Greening Australia Victoria for the Gippsland Forestcare project.

Publishing of this state-wide guide was undertaken by Central Victorian Farm Plantations Inc. Additional funding support was provided by the Joint VentureAgroforestry Project (JVAP) and the Victorian Department of Primary Industries (DPI).

Drawing on 30 years of experience as a professional forester in Victoria and Tasmania, author Mark Poynter covers the full range from ‘best practice’ management to product options, biodiversity conservation and fire.

Sustainable forest management can be enhanced by the preparation of a written management plan, including maps outlining future activities planned for the forest. The guide includes a Private Native Forest Management Plan template to assist landholders in integrating conservation and production within their natural forest ecosystems.

While the regulations may have changed, the principles of PNF forestry remain much the same.
